Manganese hyperaccumulators are predominantly woody species from the tropics and subtropics, especially Australia, New Caledonia and East Asia. Unlike Zn/Cd hyperaccumulators they do not necessarily grow on strongly metalliferous soils, suggesting a distinct physiological strategy.
