Description & ecology

One of nine manganese hyperaccumulators newly discovered in the genus Antidesma from Sabah herbarium XRF screening. Antidesma puncticulatum reached 46,400 µg g⁻¹ Mn in dried leaf tissue (Nkrumah et al. 2018, Table 1 / Fig. 1).

Also co-accumulates Ni (80–3,400 µg g⁻¹), but the headline value is the exceptional foliar Mn, a new hyperaccumulator record for Phyllanthaceae.

Value measured by handheld XRF calibrated against ICP-AES of 590 leaf samples from known hyperaccumulators in Sabah.
