Description & ecology
A New Caledonian relative of macadamia holding one of the highest foliar manganese concentrations known, above 5% dry weight.
Provenance correction 2026-09-06: the stored attribution 'Jaffré 1997' was wrong — the value traces to Jaffré's short notes in Comptes Rendus de l'Académie des Sciences (1977/1979, 'Manganese accumulation by New Caledonian Proteaceae'), which are not digitized and could not be read at source. The 55,200 µg/g figure is corroborated as 'Macadamia neurophylla (Guillaumin) Virot (with up to 55,200 µg g−1 Mn) (Jaffré 1977, 1979)' by the open-access Nkrumah et al. (2018, Ecological Research, doi:10.1007/s11284-017-1542-4), but one secondary source (a University of Queensland thesis) cites the same Jaffré 1979 note as 51,800 µg/g — the discrepancy can only be resolved at the primary, so the record stays review-cited and keeps the higher, better-corroborated 55,200 with this flag.
