Cadmium is non-essential and highly toxic, so hyperaccumulators of it are rare and of intense interest for phytoextraction of contaminated agricultural soils. Southern-French (Ganges) populations of Noccaea caerulescens and the Chinese Sedum plumbizincicola reach exceptional foliar cadmium.
