Description & ecology

Herbarium-XRF screening (corrected to predicted ICP values) of 6 specimens gave a foliar Ni range of 1,620–5,850 µg g⁻¹ (mean 2,550); ALL six specimens exceeded the 1,000 µg g⁻¹ threshold (Table 1; Navarrete Gutiérrez et al. 2024, Ecological Research 39:879–893, doi:10.1111/1440-1703.12504).

The obligate label follows from 6/6 specimens exceeding the threshold — the paper itself reserves the term 'obligate pattern' for O. subsessile, and the small sample (n=6) carries some misidentification risk per the authors.
