Description & ecology

New species described from Mount Vourinos, Greece. Field AAS of shoots from the lower site (n=5) gave a range of 6,200–18,700 µg g⁻¹ Ni DW (Bettarini et al. 2024, Ecological Research, open-access PDF read at source).

Herbarium XRF of leaf/fruit tissues from the summit (1835 m) reached 12,440 µg g⁻¹ Ni; the higher field value (18,700) is adopted as the foliar/shoot maximum.

A tetraploid Ni hyperaccumulator related to O. decipiens and a promising candidate for phytomining because of substantial shoot biomass.
