Description & ecology
VALUE AS STATED AT SOURCE (Jaffré, Pillon, Thomine & Merlot 2013, Front. Plant Sci. 4:279, Supplementary Table, read 2026-09-13): Homalium guillainii — 27 foliar analyses, 4 ≥10,000 ppm, range 4,500–11,700 µg g⁻¹ Ni DW (data of Jaffré et al. 1979).
DISCREPANCY FLAGGED: Reeves (2024, Ecological Research 39:416–436, Table 1) prints 29,000 µg g⁻¹ for this species attributed to 'Jaffré and Schmid (1974)' — but that paper concerns Psychotria douarrei only, so the attribution is suspect and the 29,000 figure is NOT entered here; 11,700 stands as the verified maximum from the measuring team's data table.
One of the first New Caledonian species reported with >1% leaf Ni ('hypernickelophore'; Brooks, Lee & Jaffré 1974, J. Ecol. 62:493–499); cited as a high-biomass phytomining prospect, being related to Populus (Jaffré et al. 2013). Formerly placed in Flacourtiaceae; now Salicaceae.
