Description & ecology
VALUE AS STATED AT SOURCE (Wang, Ye, Shu, Li, Wong & Lan 2006, Int. J. Phytoremediation 8:1–11, doi:10.1080/16226510500214517, abstract read at Europe PMC PMID 16615304): field fronds of P. multifida at 12 As-contaminated sites in Guangxi and Guangdong averaged 1,977 mg As kg⁻¹ DW, range 624–4,056; 44 of 49 samples from five sites exceeded 1,000 mg kg⁻¹.
Facultative: hyperaccumulation expressed at contaminated sites; a glasshouse study (Wang et al. 2007, Environ. Pollution 145:225–233) independently confirmed As hyperaccumulation in this species.
An erratum exists (Int. J. Phytoremediation 8(2):185) whose content could not be accessed; nothing indicates it alters the 4,056 maximum. P. oshimensis from the same survey reached only 2,142 mg kg⁻¹, and P. semipinnata was explicitly rejected as a hyperaccumulator (≤18 mg kg⁻¹).
